I have an ammonia smell, worse than a rotten egg, under hard acceleration, that comes through the vehicle vents and into the cabin, even with all windows up and vents on recirculation or outside air. Many Sequoia owners have reported this to Toyota, and they have no known fix. The odor that comes into the cabin burns your eyes for a few seconds, as well as makes my passengers and I nauseous, and distracts me when I'm driving. I believe this is a safety hazard, because we are inhaling whatever is in the cabin, and I can imagine that it is not safe, like any exhaust.

Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2013 Toyota Sequoia 4

Flex fuel models of the Toyota Sequoia with 5. 7 engines have an issue where the engine's computer thinks there is e85 fuel (or an alcohol concentration that is much higher than actual) in the system when there is normal 10% or less gasoline actually present. This can cause rough cold starts/idle, power loss, sudden rpm/power dropout, missing, and lessened fuel economy, etc. (different symptoms for different trucks). My Sequoia has now been in the shop twice for the same issue related to the engine needing re-calibration and there is no assurance it won't happen again. ,my Sequoia will not start, when it does it runs very rough and sends out a blue cloud of exhaust. Ii consistently use regular gas purchased from shell or conoco and have never put in the e85 fuel. Just went in again for the same problem again on November 12,2014 - 9 months after the first issue.

Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2010 Toyota Sequoia 8

In June 2010, took family vacation from virginia to disney world. Pulled travel trailer rated below tow rating (7,000 lbs). When arrived, noticed that the rear bumper melted all around the exhaust. Exhaust does not clear the bumper. If you look at other tow vehicles, the exhaust pipe clearly is away from the vehicle. The excess load from pulling the trailer creates excess heat. Reported the problem to Toyota, they provided me with a new bumper, changed nothing else. Decided I did not want this to happen again, went to a Toyota parts site on the south east region and ordered a exhaust pipe tip. Works great. Takes the heat past the bumper. I should not have had to buy this, Toyota should recall and provide the exhaust tip on all.

I have 2007 Toyota seguoia, in the last 2 months I, as well as my friends, have noticed a very strong odor of exaust fumes accumulating in the cabin of my SUV when:-accelerating to pass-decelerating from passing-stronger when a/c on and in 'recirculate mode'-also when just regular a/c onthe fumes have caused my friends to become ill with nausea, headaches, and sleepiness. The fumes have caused me to become very sleepy when travelilng, and my friends say my thinking is off in last couple of months. I took to local Toyota dealership, and they told me that they did not notice it? then told me they would not investigate it further because no notice was out?my SUV has 24k miles on it, I have owned it for one year. This is a severe passenger safety issue, it is going to cause someone to fall asleep at the wheel, and kill someone else or self. Strong smell of sulfur inside of car. Occurs even when ac system is set on recirculate. Concerned about passenger safety if exhaust fumes are entering vehicle. Toyota service department said at first that it was 'normal' and would disappear within 3000 - 5000 miles of driving. When smell was still there at 10,000 miles, was told that the smell is 'normal' and is related to using low octane gas. I now have 25,000 miles and switched to 93 octane gas and still have continuing problems with smell, it may even be worse now than it was at first. It is very embarrassing with passengers in the car.

Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2001 Toyota Sequoia 19

We have a Toyota Sequoia, the problems are the 4 wheel drive is not operating all the time. It does not engage sometimes and does not stay in 4 wheel drive. One example is my wife had six friends in the vehicle the 4 wheel drive did not stay engaged and the vehicle skid control made the engine loose power so she slid backwards down a hill. No one would ride in our 4wheel drive again. The vehicle skid control makes the engine loose power while in traffic. There is also a hesitation in the engine when accelerating from a complete stop. Another problem is the braking system is not adequate for the vehicle. The entire front brakes had to be replaced. The vehicle has been in for the same repairs at least 10 times and is still not working the way it should. We have all the documentation for service on our Sequoia. We have done internet research through NHTSA and have found the same problem with other Toyota Sequoia's. There was also a problem with the air conditioner having a bad oder from bacteria growing, the exhaust manifold was loose and the power window motors made a loud noise. We have filed a complaint on all the same problems with NHTSA, comsumer affairs of California and you. We want to pursue the lemon law and get our money back. We are currently working with Toyota arbritration but are getting nowhere. We have had Toyota's previously and had no problems with them. This vehicle is a lemon.
